Coaches of the Month – October 2013

Congratulations to our October 2013 Head Coach of the Month Taylor Abbott and our October 2013 Assistant Coach of the Month Jason Hofmann!

Head Coach of the Month

DSC_8827Taylor wins his second Head Coach of the Month award during his third year as a coach for Eclipse. Taylor started coaching for the club in its inaugural year when he led the U10 Lunar Girls team to a successful first season and has continued on with those girls into their U12 season this year. Under Taylor’s leadership, the U12 Lunar Girls have become one of the most successful teams in the club, including becoming the club’s first representative in the US Club Soccer National Cup. Taylor wins the award based on his dedication and commitment to not only improving his players but to also improving himself through coaching development. In addition to coaching the U12 Lunar Girls, Taylor has also spent time helping Future Eclipse and the U9 Girls this season. He is looking forward to returning to the coaching staff for a fourth season next year.

Assistant Coach of the Month

2013_06_u19_tahoe_005Jason wins the Assistant Coach of the Month award for the second time in his two seasons as an Eclipse assistant coach. After working with the U10 boys team last season, Jason has been the assistant for the U9 boys this season. Jason has consistently shown an ability to connect with the boys and has the foundation set to be a terrific head coach in the future. At the recent Brentwood tournament, the U9 boys had a dramatic 2-1 come-from-behind victory to earn a place in the semifinals that was fueled by Jason’s promise to bring them donuts if they could pull off the win. Jason will be spending the winter playing on the Campolindo varsity team and hopes some of his players are able to come out and support the team.

Halloween Fun and Success at October Tournaments

photo 1 (10)Eclipse teams threw on costumes, fought hard and played well at the October tournaments. Eclipse teams made an impact at tournaments in Davis, Brentwood and Walnut Creek over the October 26-27 weekend. A big congratulations to the U13 Girls who won their first tournament at the Walnut Creek tournament! It’s been fun watching this team progress after winning 1 game during the inaugural season as U11s. The U12 Lunar Boys are in the same boat as focused development over the past three years had them playing in their third consecutive tournament final. The U12 Lunar Girls won their second consecutive tournament (third consecutive final), winning the Walnut Creek Octoberfest for the second year in a row. The U11 Lunar Girls also won the title playing one field over from the U12 Girls in their third consecutive tournament final. It has been very enjoyable watching the teams in these age groups having extremely successful years, as these were the U9-U11 teams in our inaugural year when some of them were happy to even score a goal. Continued focus on developing skills, having fun with teammates and pushing through the tough challenges thrown our way has resulted in very rewarding experiences. Congrats also go out to U11 Lunar Boys who finished in third after winning a dramatic PK shootout that went 12 rounds, as well as the U13 Boys and U15 Girls who each finished fourth in tough flights in Davis. The U9 Boys and U11 Solar Girls each made it to the semifinals in Brentwood.

Beach Day Full of Fun, Soccer and Cool Whip

IMG_5084Thanks to everyone who made it out  for the club beach day on Saturday. Tons of kids were saying it was the most fun they have ever had thanks to the mix of fun, soccer and getting their coaches back as part of the One World Futbol campaign fundraiser. A HUGE THANKS to all of the families who donated towards the One World Futbol campaign, as we were able to raise $1,060 on Saturday. Something about smashing Cool Whip on the coaches and throwing freezing ocean water on them got everyone excited!
